TAI to Modernize Pakistan F-16s
(Source: Turkish Aerospace Industries; issued June 29, 2009)

ANKARA --- Turkish Aerospace Industries, Inc. (TAI), which is Turkey’s center of aerospace, has acquired an international success by signing a contract regarding the modernization of PAF F-16s.

Under the program, the financial dimension of which is around 75 million US Dollars, a total of 42 F-16s will be upgraded at TAI’s facilities in 46 months starting from October 2010.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), regarding the start of proposal process of PAF F-16 Modernization Program, was signed between TAI and PAF during IDEAS Defense Exhibition in September 2006 in Karachi, Pakistan.

Being invited to the international bid for PAF F-16 Modernization Program, TAI, among other European competitors, was announced as the main contractor of the program following the final evaluation of Pakistan authorities in July 2008.

Following the negotiations, which started in 2009 between TAI and Pakistan authorities, and the mutual agreement, the contract was signed between TAI and Pakistan Ministry of Defense Production on June 29, 2009 at a ceremony held in Rawalpindi-Pakistan.

In 2006, as a result of another bidding process, TAI, which had signed an agreement with the Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) for the modernization of RJAF F-16s, has successfully completed the program with the delivery of the last aircraft in April 2009.

Being among the best companies in the world in the field of F-16 modernization, there is no doubt that TAI will successfully realize PAF F-16 Modernization Program.

In recent years, filled with intense competition in the field of defense and aerospace, TAI, which has not only been on the move with its successful programs and effective management, but also become well known in export programs, will continue rising with new programs.

Egypt –F-16C/D Block 50/52 Aircraft

(Source: Defense Security Cooperation Agency; dated Oct. 9, web-posted Oct. 14, 2009)

WASHINGTON --- The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress today of a possible Foreign Military Sale to Egypt of 24 F-16C/D Block 50/52 Aircraft and associated parts weapons and equipment, as well as other Non-MDE equipment and construction services.

The total value, if all options are exercised, could be as high as $3.2 Billion.

The Government of Egypt has requested a possible sale of:
-- 24 F-16C/D Block 50/52 Aircraft installed with either the F100-PW-229 or F110-GE-129 Increased Performance Engines (IPE) and APG-68(V)9 radars;
-- 6 F100-PW-229 or F110-GE-129 IPE spare engines;
-- 6 APG-68(V)9 spare radar sets ;
-- 60 LAU-129/A Common Rail Launchers;
-- 28 AN/APX-113 Advanced Identification Friend or Foe (AIFF) Systems without Mode IV;
-- 28 M61 20mm Vulcan Cannons

Non-MDE Equipment:
-- 28 AN/ALQ-211 Advanced Integrated Defensive Electronic Warfare Systems (AIDEWS); or Advanced Countermeasures Electronic Systems (ACES) which includes the AN/ALQ-187 Electronic Warfare System and the AN/ALR-93 Radar Warning Receiver;
-- 28 AN/ARC-238 Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGAR) radios without HAVE QUICK I/II;
-- 4 F-9120 Advanced Airborne Reconnaissance Systems or DB-110 Reconnaissance Pods;
-- 28 Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Embedded GPS/Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) with Standard Positioning Service commercial code only;
-- 12 AN/AAQ-33 SNIPER Advanced Targeting Pods or AN/AAQ-28 LITENING Targeting Pods;
-- 24 pairs of Conformal Fuel Tanks;
-- 28 AN/ALE-47 Countermeasures Dispensing Systems.

Also included: Base construction, support equipment, software development/integration, tanker support, ferry services, Cartridge Actuated Devices/Propellant Actuated Devices (CAD/PAD), repair and return, modification kits, spares and repair parts, publications and technical documentation, personnel training and training equipment, U.S. Government and contractor technical, engineering, and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistics support. The estimated cost is $3.2 billion.

The proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by enhancing the capability of Egypt, a major non-NATO ally. Delivery of this weapon system will greatly enhance Egypt’s interoperability with the U.S., making it a more valuable partner in an important area of the world, as well as supporting Egypt’s legitimate need for its own self-defense.

The proposed sale will allow the Egyptian Air Force to modernize its aging air force by acquiring new fighter aircraft, thereby enabling Egypt to support both its own air defense needs and coalition operations. The country will have no difficulty absorbing this new capability into its armed forces.

The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.

The principal contractor will be Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company in Fort Worth, Texas.

The proposed sale also involves the following companies:
-- Lockheed Martin Missile and Fire Control Dallas, Texas
-- Lockheed Martin Simulation, Training, Fort Worth, Texas and Support
-- BAE Advanced Systems Greenland, New York
-- Boeing Corporation Seattle, Washington
-- Boeing Integrated Defense Systems St Louis, Missouri (three locations) Long Beach, California, San Diego, California
-- Raytheon Company Lexington, Massachusetts (two locations) Goleta, California
-- Northrop-Grumman Electro-Optical Systems Garland, Texas
-- Northrop-Grumman Electronic Systems Baltimore, Maryland
-- Pratt & Whitney United Technology Company East Hartford, Connecticut
-- General Electric Aircraft Engines Cincinnati, Ohio
-- Goodrich ISR Systems Danbury, Connecticut
-- L3 Communications Arlington, Texas
-- ITT Defense Electronics and Services McLean, Virginia
-- Symetrics Industries Melbourne, Florida

There are no known offset agreements in connection with this proposed sale.

Implementation of this proposed sale will require multiple trips to Egypt involving U.S. Government and contractor representatives for technical reviews/support, program management, and training over a period of 15 years.

There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale.

This notice of a potential sale is required by law and does not mean the sale has been concluded.

Não, bebeu não. :wink:

Lockheed to sell 24 F-16 fighter jets to Egypt

(AFP) – 1 day ago

NEW YORK — US aerospace giant Lockheed Martin is to sell 24 F-16 jet fighters to Egypt in a 3.2 billion dollar deal, a company spokesman said Tuesday.

"We understand that the governments of the United States and Egypt have reached an agreement over a contract for military sale to provide 24 F-16s to Egypt," Lockheed spokesman Joe Stout told AFP.

The company hoped to get the contract signed "early next year," he said, adding that the 3.2 billion dollars "was the amount in the agreement between the two countries."

The F-16 is flown by 25 nations, according to the company. More than 4,400 aircraft have been delivered worldwide from assembly lines in five countries.

The latest Egyptian deal, to "supplement" the current fleet, had been in discussion for some time but was officially notified to the US Congress in October, Stout said.

The Egyptian Air Force is the fourth largest F-16 operator in the world, according to defense industry reports.

It began flying the F-16 in 1982, after years of using military equipment supplied by the former Soviet Union.

Shares in Lockheed Martin closed 1.27 percent higher at 76.66 dollars in New York trade.

US-Egypt relations have improved under President Barack Obama's administration.

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, a veteran Middle East power broker, flew to Washington in August for his first presidential summit in the United States in five years, following differences with the previous George W. Bush administration.

Obama chose to address the Muslim world in Cairo in June, vowing a "new beginning" for US ties with the Islamic world and promising to end years of "suspicion and discord."

Egypt, which receives about 1.5 billion dollars in annual US aid, was the first Arab state to make peace with Israel, a top US ally.

BUCHAREST, March 23 (Reuters) - Romania's Supreme Defence Council on Tuesday approved the acquisition of 24 second-hand F16 fighters produced by Lockheed Martin Corp (LMT.N) to modernise its air force.

"Taking into account that Romania does not have the needed financial resources to buy new ... planes, the Council okayed a defence ministry proposal to acquire 24 F16 used planes," the council said in a statement.

It said the plan would be subject to parliament's approval.

Romania is a U.S. ally and some analysts had said the F16 was a likely choice.

The economic crisis complicated the NATO member's effort to seal a planned multi-billion euro fighter purchase, a deal aimed at replacing its elderly Soviet-era MiGs.

Five aircraft were in the running, and the cost of the deal has been estimated at over 4 billion euros.

Romania's choices also included the F-18 from Boeing Co (BA.N), the Rafale from France's Dassault (AVMD.PA), the Grippen from Sweden's SAAB (SAABb.ST) and the Eurofighter from EADS (EAD.PA). (Reporting by Radu Marinas; editing by Tim Pearce)

Vão substituir os Lancer, ou colocá-los em segundo plano? Porque até onde eu lembro, a Romênia operava 48 MiG-21....
